Beautifully situated, one of the most famous and appreciated resorts of the Turkish Riviera, it is located about 40 km southwest of Antalya. It is mainly famous for its beautiful landscapes with mountain slopes and majestic bare rocks dominating the turquoise Mediterranean Sea. The mountains descend almost vertically into the sea in many places, creating picturesque coves.
Kemer is a relatively new tourist resort. The ruins of the ancient cities of Phaselis and Olympos, dating back to the 8th century B.C. are close to Kemer. Phaselis is an ancient city on the Lycian Coast, located near the village of Tekirova. It was once famous for growing roses from which the aromatic oil was made.
It is also worth mentioning the Fires of Chimera Yanartaş. It is a place where natural gas flows out and burns in contact with air. Fires have been burning continuously since ancient times. According to Greek mythology, the Chimera was a fire-breathing monster with the head of a lion, the body of a goat and the tail of a snake. Here she was defeated by a hero Bellerophon on the winged horse called Pegasus.
Kemer is valued for the high standard of hotels. The city center is bustling with life, and the charming promenade encourages shopping. You can stroll the streets of Kemer, reaching the famous Moonlight Beach, one of the most beautiful in the region.
The advantage of this resort is easy access to Antalya and the proximity of many ancient remains, such as: Phaselis, Myra and Olympos. Near Kemer there is a 2365 metres high Tahtalı Dağı peak which can be reached by cable car. From the top one can admire an unforgettable view of several dozen kilometers of the coastline and the surrounding mountain peaks.
